Formerly: Playground at Ellernplace
Altenessen is an urban quarter in Northern Essen.
In the 1990s I was a member of the Primer Club Of Altenessen for a few years.
Normally a so called Primer Club edit a primer. But, like other urban quarters of
Essen, our circle editeded annually the so called Altenessener Calendar. Additionally we dealed with special topics and
issued some booklets. A favoured topic at different events and calendars was the confrontation of older and newer pictures of
the same area. So you could compare them.
Today: Common-Garden "Ellerngrün"
In the 1960s respectively 1970s there was a relative large playground at the corner Ellernstreet/Ellernplace.
At this time I often play there as a child. There was a hudge play structure:
- two slides, a smaller and a bigger one
- a little climbing frame
- at least two sandboxes
- several seats
- and so forth
An adventure playground had been built there, later on in the late 80s or early 90s of the last century. Unfortunately
this area turned out as a problem site. The recovery was too expencive and so Essen etablished on this ground
a garden with raised beds for the neighbourhood.
